Beyond the Bump

Beyond the Bump is a podcast brought to you by Jayde Couldwell and Sophie Pearce. It began in the baby years and has grown right alongside us, because motherhood keeps evolving long after the baby stage ends.

This is a place for real conversations and honest questions, no matter how hard, about the parts of motherhood that often go unspoken. The mental load that changes shape rather than easing. The identity shifts. The stage where life doesn’t suddenly feel simpler. Wherever you are in it, the aim is the same: to leave you feeling lighter, more understood and a little less alone after every listen.

After a few failed recording attempts, we are back on the mic and catching up on where we are at. We are both feeling a bit stretched but we know you’re in it with us, Bumpies. How Pearl’s second week of drop offs has been hard
Jayde takes back what she said - parenting teens is A LOT
“Leaning on in to tap the eff out”
How negative feedback can take a toll on your mindset
When you’re doing so much but feel like like none of it is good enough
When are we spending time with our partner!?
Sophie is petitioning for 5am dates
What type of teenager were you?
“I’m a cool mom!” Buying drinks and boy sleepovers
Sharing our crazy teenage memories, plus stories Bumpies sent in

For this episode of our Newborn Mini Series, The First 365, we speak to Nicole Pates, paediatric physiotherapist, to ask what are the TOP 5 things all new parents should know about physical milestones in the first year of life. Milestone expectations are spread across a large time period, not a set date
Early intervention leads to better outcomes

Should babies show a dominant hand?
The noise around “shoulds” of milestones
Play! The importance of play
Temperament, security and exploring learning opportunities
